France 24/07/2006- 04/08/2006

Wow so long since I’ve updated and we’ve done so much – just haven’t had time to update so I am afraid I am updating about a month in a day

We went on a family holiday to Boudeilles sth France. Mum, Steve, Ed, I, Abigail, Harry, Becky and Margaret Steve’s mum to stay with Steve’s Aunt and Uncle who live in Boudeilles. We decided to do the driving over 2 days as otherwise it wouldn’t be fair on Abigail being stuck in her car seat ( boy am I glad we did!!)
We didn’t arrive at the hotel to stop over at until 12.30am!! Poor Abigail didn’t know if it was day or night but she settled really well!
The next day was slightly better and we didn’t get so lost and arrived in Boudeilles at around 5pm and stopped to ring Rick Steve’s uncle to ask for him to come get us (we had planned and arranged with him that we would get to the town of Boudeilles and ring him and he would come and meet us and we would follow him to his farm house. I don’t think you can really call Boudeilles a town it consisted of a river and 2 shops!!) Anyway we couldn’t get through to Rick when we dialled the number some French operator and in our broken French we figured out she was trying to say that she couldn’t connect us!! Grrr After an hour my mum gave up and started walking up the road bearing it was 40 degrees outside we were NOT leaving the air conditioned car!!
Mum was trying in broken French to ask if anyone knew where this English couple lived and bumped into a woman speaking English! Well she nearly cried with happiness and this woman walked up the hill to where there was a signal and used her phone and rang Rick and he came and rescued us J
He showed us back to his house and we settled in.
Abigail decided that she didn’t like sleeping in her travel cot so decided to get up every 2 hours during the night!! (not much of a holiday for mummy and daddy)
Ed and I went canoeing with Becky and Harry the canoeing was very hard work and are some funny tales to tell the bruises have nearly gone now!! Poor Harry had the worst bruises and cuts!! Never knew canoeing could be so painful!!
Mum, Ed, Harry and I also had the once in a lifetime chance to go up in a microlite! It was amazing!! Very scary I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do it but did it and am SO glad I did!!
We did lots of swimming in the evening as it was just too hot to go outside in the middle of the day! Abigail loved swimming especially in her swimming chair! She has no fear of the water which is really good.
The second week the weather was not so good it rained a lot and was no where near as hot (but still shorts weather for us brits!! He he)
We went out for lots of lovely meals tasting the lovely French Cuisine and I tasted so many things I’d never have eaten in my life before and mum had Abigail for 2 hours one evening so Ed and I could go out for a nice meal – it was lovely being on out own with out the whole family although I wished we’d taken Abigail as there was a 5 month baby in the restaurant so I was feeling very left out without my little princess. We had a laugh when we found out after the meal that Ed had ordered eaten and liked snails! (I told him it was fish!! ;) )
The time went so quickly and it was time to load up the car and head of for our 2 days of travelling again to get home I was NOT looking forward to it. But after all it was nowhere near as bad we left Ricky and Pauline’s at around 10am and got to the hotel at about 5pm!! So had a nice relax and got to see the hotel in the day light! The second day when we got to the ferry it was delayed which was annoying as all there was at the port was a very smelly toilet and some chairs with a bar with tea in a plastic cup and baguettes that looked so crunchy I think I’d have broken all my teeth so we were very hungry and trying to keep Abigail amused – not so fun!
Once we were on the ferry and got a sandwich Abigail had a nice nap but the sea was very rough (hence the delay) and Steve took a turn for the worst and was very poorly in the loo with sea sickness.
We had a lovely clear trip back from Dover to a HUGE pile of washing. But it was worth it!!
